Build visibility around the work

Remote teams need to understand which work is progressing. Linking time entries to tasks helps explain how meetings, development and other activities contribute to a project. Time spent online does not provide enough information about outcomes on its own.

Document entry conventions

Agree on units, description detail and the weekly review day. Reports are harder to compare when one person assigns meetings to a customer project and another to a general task. Keep conventions brief and practical.

  1. Choose the correct task for each activity.
  2. Complete entries regularly.
  3. Check missing days and task assignments.

Discuss hours alongside outcomes

Review paid-plan scope for weekly approvals and advanced effort reports. When tasks take longer than planned, first review scope changes, investigation and waiting time. Effort data can improve the next plan, but is not enough on its own to rank employee performance.
